mysql-common-5.6 software package provides MySQL 5.6 specific common files, e.g. /etc/mysql/conf.d/my-5.6.cnf, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install mysql-common-5.6
mysql-common-5.6 is installed in your system.
Make ensure the mysql-common-5.6 package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep mysql-common-5.6 *
You will get with mysql-common-5.6 package name, version, architecture and description in a table
